August 2006 marked the 150th anniversary of St. Rose Catholic Parish’s founding in 1856 as the first Catholic Church in Lima. St. Rose Catholic School was established in 1865 and was the first Catholic school in Lima. Here are a few points from St. Rose’s extraordinary litany of past and present of accomplishments. St. Rose Parish still proudly celebrates its strong, Catholic family heritage and Christian atmosphere. We estimate 3,500 graduates since the school opened. It is the cradle of Catholic primary education for six generations.Current capacity of 200 students, K to 8th grade, allows for small classes and the individual attention of a private academy. The St. Rose Parish steeple shines before all of Lima, signaling our spiritual and physical rebirth and illuminating our sacred place in the community. It is the oldest and largest steeple in Lima. A church with only 15 pastors in 150 years. A church with over 40 priestly vocations, 3 deacons and over 60 callings to be sisters. St. Rose Parish welcomes all: Catholics, non-Catholics and those who have not been around for a while. It’s still a home at home or away from home, for everyone. |
